Land Clearing in Stonewall, LA
The owners in Stonewall needed room for an additional barn, but unwanted trees, underbrush and stumps filled the footprint. What Equipment We Use

Kubota Tractor & Land Pride Bush Hog
We use a Kubota tractor with a rear-mounted Land Pride bush hog.
- Setup: A rear-mounted rotary cutter with a 60-inch cutting width.
- What it cuts: Tall grass, weeds and light brush with woody stems up to 1 inch thick.
- Best use: Maintaining open fields, trails, fence lines and overgrown acreage.

Track Loader & Forestry Mulcher
We use a compact track loader with a forestry mulching head.
- Setup: A front-mounted drum mulcher cuts brush and turns it into a layer of mulch.
- What it clears: Thick brush and small trees, typically 5–7 inches thick, depending on the tree and ground conditions.
- Best use: Opening overgrown lots, trails and wooded acreage. Mulch stays on-site, and roots remain in the ground.

Excavator, Bucket & Hydraulic Thumb
We use a tracked excavator with a bucket and hydraulic thumb.
- Setup: The bucket digs around roots, while the hydraulic thumb grips logs, brush and stumps.
- What it handles: Larger tree sections, stumps, root balls and heavy clearing debris.
- Best use: Full land clearing, removing roots and loading debris for hauling.
Vegetation & Trees We Handle in Shreveport
Shreveport sits among pine-and-hardwood uplands, overgrown fields and wetter low ground. We identify the growth, mark the trees to keep and choose the work around access, soil support and the finish you want.

Privet Thickets & Unwanted Woody Shrubs
Chinese privet can form dense, small-leaved thickets along Shreveport fence lines and woodland edges. It crowds other plants and makes neglected boundaries hard to reach.
How we handle it: We mulch suitable woody growth or clear larger stems according to the scope. Surviving roots may resprout, so repeat maintenance can be needed.

Greenbrier, Honeysuckle & Tangled Vines
Thorny greenbrier and climbing vines can weave through shrubs, trails and old fences around northwest Louisiana. Hidden wire and supporting brush make careful assessment important.
How we handle it: We check the route and retained trees before cutting or mulching. Vines can return from surviving underground growth, so one pass does not guarantee lasting control.

Johnsongrass, Broomsedge & Field Weeds
Tall grasses and old-field weeds can build up where Shreveport-area acreage has gone without regular cutting. Thick clumps can conceal debris and uneven ground.
How we handle it: Our bush hog cuts accessible grass, weeds and light brush within its rating. We check the ground first and leave roots and cuttings on-site.

Loblolly Pine, Sweetgum & Young Tree Growth
Young loblolly pine and sweetgum can establish along disturbed ground and field edges. Chinese tallow can also invade openings and return from damaged roots.
How we handle it: We identify retained trees first and mulch suitable saplings. Larger trunks and specified roots need a clearing plan; tallow and sweetgum regrowth can require follow-up.

Oaks, Hickories & Established Hardwoods
Oaks, hickories and other mature hardwoods shape wooded properties around Caddo and Bossier parishes. Broad crowns, heavy limbs and established roots need individual planning.
How we handle it: We mark retained canopy trees and check structures, access and applicable approvals. We define stump work, root extraction and hauling before clearing.
Land Clearing Questions,
Clear Answers.
Do I need approval to clear land around Shreveport?
We check the actual municipality or parish, tree rules, proposed disturbance and drainage conditions before work starts. Shreveport-Caddo development rules include tree-preservation requirements, and work involving large trees or public rights-of-way may need approval. Nearby Bossier and DeSoto properties have their own authorities. Building and site-preparation approvals are separate from an equipment quote.
What is the difference between bush hogging, mulching and clearing?
Bush hogging cuts tall grass, weeds and light brush with suitable stems up to about 1 inch. Forestry mulching shreds denser woody growth and suitable smaller trees, leaving mulch on-site. Land clearing handles agreed larger trees, specified stump or root work and debris removal.
Will forestry mulching remove roots and stumps?
Mulching reduces suitable growth above ground and normally leaves buried roots in place. Stump grinding and root extraction are separate work. Tell us if the footprint will become a driveway or building area so we can plan the next preparation steps.
Is debris removal included?
Mulch and bush-hog cuttings normally stay on-site. For clearing or tree removal, we specify what will be hauled, processed or left in agreed locations. We list stump grinding and root work separately so you know what remains.
Are these prices per acre?
The displayed ranges are general project budgets, not per-acre rates. Tree removal is per suitable individual tree. Growth, tree size, access, wet ground, debris disposal and the finish affect the quote. Larger or difficult jobs can exceed the ranges.
How long will the work take?
Light field cutting may take hours, while denser mulching and clearing with hauling can take longer. We set the schedule around the agreed scope, weather, ground conditions and any required approvals.
Can you keep selected trees?
Yes. We mark the trees to keep and plan the work around their trunks and roots. We keep equipment, debris piles and grade changes out of protected tree areas. Keeping a tree also means protecting the ground that supports it.
Can you clear wet ground near a lake or creek?
We assess soil support and identify wet or sensitive areas before equipment arrives. Work near Cross Lake, the Red River, creeks or wetlands can need additional drainage or environmental review. We agree on the upland work area and access before clearing.
Does cutting remove privet or Chinese tallow permanently?
Not always. Privet and tallow can send up new growth from surviving roots or stumps. We open the agreed area and discuss maintenance rather than promising permanent control after one cutting or mulching visit.
Does grading make my lot ready to build?
Rough grading creates an agreed ground shape. A construction pad may also need engineered elevations, approved drainage, suitable fill, compaction testing and inspections. We define the handoff with the next contractor.
What do you check before bush hogging?
We look for old fencing, hidden stumps, debris, uneven ground and access limits. We separate light field cutting from dense woody growth and mark the trees or screening you want to keep.
How often should I maintain an opened field?
It depends on growth, rainfall and how you use the land. Regular cutting keeps tall grass and young woody stems from building up. We discuss a practical maintenance schedule after reviewing the field and the finish you want.
